THREE-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE COURSES, SINGLE-CYCLE MAGISTRALE - FIVE-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE COURSES, MAGISTRALE - TWO-YEAR POSTGRADUATE DEGREE COURSES

Admission requirements

Foreign educational qualifications are valid for admission to three-year undergraduate degree courses, single-cycle Magistrale - five-year undergraduate degree courses, but only if awarded after a period of not less than 12 years’ education and provided that they enable admission to courses in the universities of the country to whose system they relate which are comparable to that applied to in Italy.

Registration with recognition of prior learning is only possible where the university course duration exceeds the period required to enable the student to complete their studies.
For qualifications awarded after a period of study lasting 11 years, the original certificate of secondary education must be supplemented with an academic certificate confirming that all the examinations for the 1st year of university have been passed; for educational systems which run for 10 years, the certificate must be supplemented with an academic certificate confirming that all the examinations for the first two years of university have been passed. This academic certificate, which supplements secondary educational qualifications achieved after less than 12 years’ schooling, only enables the student to register for the first academic year.

N.B.

  • The American High School certificate must be supplemented with two full years’ further “College” education, including entitlement to progress to the third year, or by one full year of further “College” study with entitlement to progress to the second year and passes in 4 “American Advanced Placements” (APS), in different subjects relevant to the university course applied for. If one of the “APS” is in Italian, this is valid for all academic courses.
  • British qualifications are accepted where they include passes in at least 6 different subjects, including at least 3 at A level which are relevant to the Degree Course or University Diploma applied for (see “Course Requirements”). If one of the A level passes is in Italian, this is valid for all academic courses.
  • The Greek “Apolityrion” qualifications are accepted for admission purposes, but only with a minimum average mark of 10 out of 20. Candidates must also have achieved the “VEVEOSI PROSVASIS” certificate of academic competence, with a mark of over 10. The only candidates who can be exempted from this requirement are those who passed the Apolityrion before 1999 and can provide evidence that they were resident in Italy during the three-year period 1999-2001, being the transitional period established by the recent Greek law for obtaining this certificate retrospectively.
  • Albanian qualifications are only acceptable for admittance to taught university courses when the student has taken the mandatory academic competence examination introduced when the Albanian educational system was reformed, or has already registered with a university in the past.
  • Academic qualifications issued by Ecclesiastical Universities in Italy and approved by the Holy See must be authenticated by the competent ecclesiastical authorities and officially stamped by the Prefecture of Rome (Stamp Office). Candidates holding qualifications with the authentications and official stamps as above should submit just the photocopy of the qualification to the University or the competent Diplomatic mission. The original is to be produced at the point of actual registration, after the admission tests.

Documentation required for registration

The following documentation must be included with the application for registration (which can be downloaded from: www.uniurb.it>studenti>studenti stranieri>modulistica):

  1. The final secondary school certificate (original) with an official translation and authentication of signatures. The authentication of signatures is not required in countries which have adopted the Brussels European Convention of 25 May 1987, together with Germany. For countries which have adopted the Aja Convention of 5 October 1961, the documents must be provided with an “Apostille” stamp from the competent local Authorities.
  2. Declaration of equivalence of the qualification, courtesy of the competent Italian diplomatic mission for the territory concerned;
  3. Two photographs (one of which to be authenticated by the competent Italian diplomatic mission for the territory concerned);
  4. Residence permit, for non-EU citizens legally settled in Italy;
  5. A certificate of having successfully passed any academic competence test where required for admission to the university in the country of origin (as per the ministerial orders which can be found on the site www.miur.it>Università>Studenti>Studenti Stranieri o al link www.esteri.it>Politica estera>Promozione culturale Università);
  6. A certificate confirming any partially completed academic studies, where the qualification was awarded after a period of less than 12 years' education or when recognition of prior learning has been requested; in this case, the certificate must specify which examinations have been passed and must be accompanied by official documentation concerning the actual examination syllabi.

All academic certificates written in a language other than Italian must be accompanied by an official translation in Italian together with authentication of signatures, and must be confirmed by the Italian Diplomatic or Consular missions competent for the territory concerned. Students will need to collect their authenticated original certificates and declarations of equivalence from the Diplomatic/consular mission, and deliver them to Carlo Bo University of Urbino for the admission procedures to be completed.

The Declaration of equivalence is an official document describing the qualification awarded and the level to which it pertains, from an institution which belongs to a non-Italian educational system.

Even if the educational qualification was issued by an Institution from a different system from that in the country where the candidate is resident or in which the candidate is studying or has studied, the qualification must still be accompanied by the authentication, the “declaration of equivalence” and any translation from the Italian Diplomatic/consular mission in the country to whose system the issuing Institute belongs.

MAGISTRALE - TWO-YEAR POSTGRADUATE DEGREE COURSES

Admission requirements

Students in possession of an academic qualification awarded abroad at a university or tertiary Institute of further education may apply directly to the University to register for a single degree course.

For admission to Magistrale - two-year postgraduate degree courses for which the number of places is limited, students are required to take the specific selection tests required as per the individual course prospectuses.

The foreign academic qualification must at least be comparable to an Italian first-level degree and in a similar subject to the selected degree course. The academic certificate must be provided with an official translation and authentication of the signatures. The authentication of signatures is not required in countries which have adopted the Brussels European Convention of 25 May 1987, together with Germany. For countries which have adopted the Aja Convention of 5 October 1961, the documents must be provided with an “Apostille” stamp from the competent local Authorities;

  4. Certificate issued by the competent academic authority in relation to the certificate referred to in point 2 – duly authenticated by the diplomatic/consular mission – confirming the examinations passed and the number of hours of teaching required for each discipline;
  5. Detailed syllabi of the examinations sat and passed;
  6. Two photographs (one of which to be authenticated by the competent Italian diplomatic mission for the territory concerned);
