E-Urbs - European Master in Comparative Urban Studies

E-urbs is a European Master course on Comparative Urban Studies of 60 ECTS. Its extensive online teaching and tutoring – together with an intensive summerschool in Urbino – are aimed at providing an innovative and truly international learning environment in Europe.

E-urbs, is based on the extensive experience of nine European prestigious Universities who provides a deep knowledge of the main theories in the field of urban studies. Its multidisciplinary and international character, emphasized by its comparative approach and a specific training in the field, helps to develop the ability to interpret and understand urban changes and to analyse appropriate strategies and policies to address metropolitan problems.

Objectives Main objective of E-urbs is to create an “virtual international campus” arrangement for the study of urban issues. Thanks to this kind of organization, it will be possible to take advantage of the experience and competence of the most well-known scholars in the field at an international level, whilst at the same time have offering the opportunity to develop a comparative approach in the study of distant and different urban realities and policies. Innovation E-urbs develops an integrated blended mode learning system, based on the integration of virtual and physical mobility and the use of ICT, supporting new methods of interaction. The blended approach complements online teaching with face-to-face teaching. This allows students and professors to meet face-to-face and to increase the efficiency of the learning process in the subsequent online interactions.

A first summer course in Urbino, organised in the month of August will be followed by online courses. During the online interaction, traditional ICT distance learning techniques will be complemented with news visual and heuristic approaches. Truly international The Council of Europe-UNESCO joint convention (1997) and the Bologna declaration (1999) have changed the higher education scenario in Europe.

E-Urbs promotes virtual and physical mobility coherently designed into a truly international curricula in Comparative Urban Studies. The establishment of an international/European comparative curricula will highly benefit from the delocalised interaction. The use of ODL devices, in fact, will allow students and professors to better promote the comparative and interdisciplinary approach.
