After a brief introduction to the birth and evolution of cinema, the following stages and problems in French culture will be presented on screen through a representative sample of cinematic works and excerpts:  Belle époque, Surrealism, the Popular Front, Occupation,   the 1960s, 1968, Immigration, the Banlieue.

The films chosen belong to a variety of genres and offer occasion to reflect on the manners in which the French have interpreted their history on screen.
