Learning Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with the tools to be able to read, understand and discuss authentic texts relevant to the subject (education).
Program
There will be four lessons per week and the course is given by two tutors. One tutor will focus on reading, comprehension and vocabulary while the other tutor will revise grammar.
Both written and oral exams are compulsory.
- There will be ONE written exam and two oral exams per session.
- Students must pass the written exam to be admitted to the oral exam.
- The written and oral exams will be held on different dates.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
On completion of the course students will have acquired the following skills:
1. Competence in basic elements grammar, to enable the correct use in both written and spoken language (by means of an optional revision lesson).
2. The ability to read, understand and answer comprehension questions on texts based on educational topics in English.
3. The knowledge of education-basded vocabulary and practice of the use of synonyms.
4. The ability to identify key words and summarise a text using aquired knowledge (vocabulary, synonyms etc.).
5. The ability to talk about, discuss and give opinions on topics based on education and dealt with in class.
All of the above-listed competences should be obtained by attending lessons and optional tutorials.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

WRITTEN EXAM:
1. Listening comprehension
A short text will be read based on a topic relevant to Education and students will be expected to answer true/ false, multiple choice and open-ended questions on the text.
2. Reading comprehension
A short text relevant to Education will be given to students, who will be expected to answer true/ false, multiple choice and open-ended questions on the text. There will also be a question seeking a personal opinion on the topic of the text.
ORAL EXAM:
The student must choose 15 texts from the following text book:
Catani E., (a cura di), A New Companion to English Grammar, QuattroVenti, Urbino, 2006 (con CD).
The student must be able to:
i) read the texts correctly, paying attention to pronunciation (for practice purposes the text book contains a CD)
ii) talk about and answer questions on the texts.
- Disabilità e DSA
Le studentesse e gli studenti che hanno registrato la certificazione di disabilità o la certificazione di DSA presso l'Ufficio Inclusione e diritto allo studio, possono chiedere di utilizzare le mappe concettuali (per parole chiave) durante la prova di esame.
A tal fine, è necessario inviare le mappe, due settimane prima dell’appello di esame, alla o al docente del corso, che ne verificherà la coerenza con le indicazioni delle linee guida di ateneo e potrà chiederne la modifica.
