Learning Objectives

The student is provided with a brief summary of the most relevant problems and historical developments of Latin literature, from the origins to II AD. The student will get acquainted with crucial problems and personalities of Latin literature.

Program

The syllabus is twofold:

1. general part: its first section is a general part (PARTE ISTITUZIONALE), where the students work independently, improving and consolidating their knowledge of Latin literature (genres, development and personalities) through the perusal of a handbook or companion on the topic.2. CORSO MONOGRAFICO

 2. monographic course: it is developed by the teacher, who will provide the students with:

- literary genres

- the myths in Rome

- reading in translation of some passages from Ovid's Metamorphoses and Heroides

Bridging Courses

PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE OF LATIN LANGUAGE.

Students of the Archaeological and Philological-Classical  and Philological-Modern curricula et Students of individual training activities must possess an adequate knowledge of the Latin language, guaranteed by a written, compulsory and preparatory assessment test to take the exam. Based on the topics covered in the basic Latin extracurricular training course, on which detailed information will be available both on the site of the School of Letters Arts Philosophy and on the Blended Learning platform (Moodle), this test will consist of questions on morphology and syntax of the Latin language and in the translation of a passage taken from the work of an author of Latin literature. In order to take the test, the student will have two dates available during the academic year, which will be set in a period immediately preceding the scheduled exams at the end of the first and second semesters and communicated both on the site of the School of Lettere Arti Filosofia both on the Blended Learning platform (Moodle). The results of the test will be made available on the Blended Learning platform (Moodle).

Assessment

Assessment 1: written exam (test) - the student will answer to given questions on topics, which he will be acquainted with through the handbook and the lessons. Topics of the questions may cover: periodization and phases of Latin literature; main themes of Latin authors; features of language and style of Latin authors

Assessment 2: oral exam - during the oral session, the written exam is discussed and dwelt upon by the examiner, and further questions are asked.
