Learning Objectives
The aim of the course is twofold: (a) to verify the thermodynamic conditions in which an artwork is realized and undergoes degradation and the conditions that allow it to be restored conservatively. For this purpose, not only the thermodynamic functions and their dependence on environmental conditions are illustrated, but also methods of quantification, extraction and purification of dyes and adsorption processes on a painted surface; (b) to describe, starting from the theoretical and operational bases, the chemical-physical spectroscopic techniques and to give examples of their use in the cultural heritage and restoration of artistic artifacts.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
- The student will have to show the mastery of the basic knowledge related to the fundamental chemical-physical concepts, also related to the chemical-physical investigation techniques. Also the ability to evaluate processes of interest in the field of cultural heritage with chemical-physical logics
- The student will have to show the understanding of the concepts and theories provided by the course; will provide examples of evaluation of simple processes that identify dynamics and interactions of particles and dyes and examples of deterioration and conservative revaluation of works of art with chemical-physical methods and use of techniques such as UV-Vis, fluorescence, IR, RAMAN and magnetic resonance.
- The student must show possession of the ability to use knowledge and concepts that allow reasoning according to the specific logic of the discipline. It will have to be able, in particular, to identify methodologies that allow to know the chemical-physical processes that are involved in the installation and restoration of a work of art.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
Didactic material is available on Blended Learning (Uniurb.it). It will be available also in English by contacting via -mail the teacher
