Learning Objectives
Themes
The organization of the early childhood care and education system (infant-toddler centers and preschools) in Italy has always felt the need to employ the figure of the pedagogical coordinator within its own structures, already since the 1970s, and some Municipalities committed themselves to this sense, with the particularly virtuous experiences of Forlì, Modena, Reggio Emilia (Catarsi, 2010).
The need to coordinate the pedagogical, organizational, administrative aspects in the educational structures went hand in hand with that of coordinating the structures, coordinating the educational staff and the municipal administration and also coordinating different managing bodies with each other, in a split-system (both public and private) typical of our country (Frabboni, 1976). At the beginning of the 2000s, in the European context, there was an awareness that the specificity of the coordinator's role and duties are fundamental to guarantee the pedagogical and social quality of infant-toddler centers and preschools (Musatti and Mayer, 2003). In 2006, the University of Florence established the first master's degree in pedagogical coordination of ECEC centers under the direction of Professor Catarsi (Silva, 2019). Today the legislative situation has been modified by the law 65/2017 which aims to promote the continuity of the first educational path by transforming it in a unitary process, in which the various services of the Integrated ECEC System collaborate through common training and planning activities and, above all sharing the same coordination. In addition, there is a general focus on the need to promote territorial pedagogical coordination, so that local administartions must worry about improving or activating it, enhancing their own professional resources or hiring new ones. Therefore, for the figure of the pedagogical coordinator, new employment opportunities, new professional challenges and consequently a new training need are foreseen, given that he/she will increasingly be a figure functional to the development and qualification strategy of the Integrated ECEC System (Lazzari et Al., 2022);
The course aims to achieve the following training objectives:
- building skills related to curricular planning of ECEC services;
- gaining skills related to the management of the organizational, administrative, pedagogical, communicative complexity of ECEC services;
- the acquisition of knowledge on the most valid theorical contributions in the field of childhood education;
- the acquisition of knowledge relating to the history of the Italian ECEC system, from the post-WW2 period to the law 65/2017;
- the acquisition of methodological skills relating to child observation, pedagogical documentation and the evaluation of educational services (according to the theory of educational evaluation).

Objectives
The post-graduate course allows the training and/or qualification of a professional figure, that is the ECEC educational manager, already present in the Italian working landscape, however our course aims to achieve four specific objectives that have actual employment implications for participants: 1) to qualify how many, among nursery school teachers and kindergarten teachers, having work experience, want to deepen their pedagogical knowledge and develop those curricular, planning, administrative and managerial skills useful for proposing themselves for coordination positions in cooperatives and municipalities; 2) to qualify those who, among the graduates in pedagogy, philosophy and related disciplines, are employed by the schools in which there are preschools that can be used as coordinators, as happened in some recent experiments (Cerini, 2017) 3) train those who, among the employees of public administrations and third sector companies, find themselves having to occupy middle management positions that have auxiliary, collaboration roles, in relation to the local educational board (in particular the employees of the Regions and Municipalities and social cooperatives) 4) train those who, among the graduates in pedagogy, education sciences and teaching sciences, wish to acquire adequate professional skills for the role of educational manager.
