Learning Objectives
The course is structured in three parts, each one discussing possible uses of information and communication technology in the enterprise.
Nowadays, in fact, enterprises feeds its actions and decisions and its strategic intents using structured flows of information. These flows, from outside to inside, internal, and from the inside to the outside, are as important as the more traditional flows of goods and financial resources.
The first part of the course aim is to approach the modern concept of an Enterprise Information System as a key element of an effective enterprise and to help the student acquire its language and main points.
The second part is developed around the concept of project and to acquire the elements of Project Management according to the Project Management Institute.
The final part of the course introduces information analysis as a way to better understand trends and markets, in order to improve the quality of enterprise decisions.
During the course software tools related to actual use of information in the enterprise will be introduced and practically experimented.
Program
The first part of the course will discuss:
1. Introduction to Enterprise Information Systems
2. The evolution and current state of EIS
3. Develop Integrated Enterprise Information Systems
4. Information Systems for the extended enterprise
The second part is dedicated to Projects:
Definitions related to Projects in the enterprise;
What defines project success;:
Projects and Processes;
Organizational and human aspects of the project;
The Project Management Institute (PMI), PMP certification and PMbok;
Project lifecycle and project phases;
The WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), estimating and scheduling;
The project team and resource management;
Post Project Analysis as a knowledge acquisition method.
Program of the third course module:
Data, information and knowledge;
The data base and analytical tools:
Internal and exetrnal data sources:
Big Data and related opportunities;
Open Data as a Public Service to citizens and companies;
Spreadsheets and analytical languages, Data Science tools;
The R language and OLAP tools: Mondrian;
Real application cases discussion.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
• Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione (knowledge and understanding)
The student will acquire language and concepts of modern integrated information systems and skills useful to work with specialists. He will also acquire skills related to choosing and applying the right IT tool for the specific enterprise need.

Knowledge will be developed and verified to effectively work inside an enterprise using a modern enterprise information system and contributing to its development stages.
• Autonomia di giudizio (making judgements)
Making diagnosis and judgement to apply knowledge acquired to real world situations is a primary aim of the course. The course is structured to mix knowledge about each specific issue with the tools available to effectively approach it.
• Abilità comunicative (communication skills)
Communication and discussion skills are used at each step of the learning path, being teamwork and active problem solving and presentation the main learning tools used.
• Capacità di apprendere (learning skills).
Being the discipline inherently interdisciplinary, the focus of the course is not to add notions, but to experiment new, innovative, views in solving known problems and to develop approaches to add to each student personal toolset. This aim will be pursued through practical application.

Notes
The student can request to sit the final exam in English with an alternative bibliography.
