Learning Objectives

The course provides students with the skills to understand and critically think about facts, processes and interpretations of the political systems in contemporary Europe. The political history of the Italian republic  will be taken as a case study to see similarities and differences.

Program

The course provides students with the tools and expert knowledge to interpret the birth and development of political parties in contemporary Europe, with an eye to political communication, leadership and reference political knowledge. It starts from a general analysis of mass parties in the twentieth century and then it moves on to an in-depths analysis  of the monographic section that takes into account the history of the Italian Republic from  post war times  to the present.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The course aims at providing students with  knowledge of the history of political phenomena of the twentieth century. It aims at developing application and integration  skills of such knowledge in a  wider context of their study  field and learn to manage complexity in a research context.
