Learning Objectives
The course, directed to students of the first year, is divided into two parts. The course aims to provide students with the essential elements for the understanding of labor law and the international community. To this end, it offers an introduction to the institutions of the European Union and the International Labour Organisation, so to illustrate to students the institutional framework of labour law.
In a second part we will address the study of the policies and principles of Community law relating to the rights of working people, with particular attention to the principle of free movement of workers; the prohibition of discrimination and safety in the workplace.
Program
First part: 1. Principles of international modern and contemporary: the progressive institutionalization of international relations. 2. The International Labour Organization: role and functions. 3. The main stages of European integration. 4. The organs of the European Union. 5. Sources of Community law. 6. The adaptation of domestic law with international law. 7. Effectiveness mediated and direct effect of Community law, the principle of subsidiarity and the primacy of Community law. 8. How to resolve any contradictions between national, international and community work.
Second part: 9. The guiding principles of the rules contained in ILO conventions and recommendations. 10. The social principles in the Treaties of Rome to the Social Charter. 11. Employment policies: the Treaty of Amsterdam to the Treaty of Lisbon. 12. The free movement of workers. 13. The right of establishment and the free movement of services. 14. Gender discrimination and "new forms of discrimination." 15. Flexicurity. 16. The protection of health and safety in the workplace. 17. Labour law in contexts of business crises. 18. Collective bargaining and actions.

-A) knowledge and understanding
The student is at ease with the Italian constitution, the EU Charter and public international rules on labour issues. He has the hability to understand their coordination according to the basic principles of the monistic and pluralistic systems, respectively.
B) applying knowledge and understanding:
The student is able to solve - in the light of the hierarchy of internal sources and fundamental principles of the international order and those of the EU- any apparent or real conflict between rules of different origin.
C) Making judgments:
The student will demonstrate the ability to distinguish and interpret rules and decisions belonging to different legal systems, by collecting and interpreting relevant data (Treaties, Recommendations, Decisions from the European Union, UN, ILO etc.).
D) communication skills:
The student clearly communicates her or his observations, by selecting the information according to their importance and relevance, formulating ideas, and providing solutions to problems, individually and in groups.
E) Learning skills:
The student has developed research skills in particular through the use of Olympus and institutional databases, particularly those of ILO, the European Court of Human rights and the European Union.

Attending students will undergo written tests, interviews, elaboration of papers previously agreed with the teacher.

- Assessment
The final exam consists of an oral discussion aimed at verifying, together with their knowledge, their scientific language skills.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
