Learning Objectives
Acquisition of skills for the critical analysis of the history of China and of the Far East, through the clarification and comparison of the imperial era and of the republican period. Knowledge of the influence of cultural traditions, both from China and from the outside; acquaintance with the process of elaboration, formalization and legitimation of the imperial political culture and of the concept of Chinese nation. Acquisition of skills for the investigation, the research, and the interpretation of historical facts.
Program
Development and features of the Chinese history from the establishment of the Chinese empire to the contemporary period. Analysis of the political, ideological and cultural grounds of Chinese empire, during the Ming and Qing dynasties (XIV-XX a.D.), and of Chinese nation in the era of Republic (from 1911 to the present day). Analysis of the concept of modernity in Chinese history and of Chinese traditional and modern historiography.
