Learning Objectives
This course represents a basic subject of geological disciplines. The main purpose of the course is to provide interpretive tools for understanding the environmental system through the analysis of the key elements of the geosphere. After completing this course the student will have assimilated the basic knowledge in the continental hydrology, physical oceanography, climatology and will have learned the basic techniques for the study of the landscape.
Program
Elements of Carthography. Definitions of territory, landscape and environment.Representation of the earth's surface.Maps.Size and shape of the Earth.Geoid, ellipsoid. The relief representations - the contour lines - equidistance, map scale. Projections. UTM, Gauss Boaga. the IGM cartography.Topographic profiles. Gradient slope.Symbology. The aerial photos. Elements of Photogrammetry.Morphometry of the river basins. The hydrographic network. geographical and hydrological watershed, longitudinal profile, hypsometric curve. Fluvial system. River basin elements. Quantitative analysis of river basins. General characteristics of the channels. Hydrologic measurement. . River transportation. Loading.Stream Capacity and Competence. Lakes. Marine and coastal system. The oceans and seas. The sea water. The air temperature, atmospheric pressure, winds. Humidity and precipitation. Classification and distribution of climates. The climate of Italy. Climate global changes.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Mastery of the knowledge of the basic phenomena of the Earth system and the dynamics of the atmosphere and hydrosphere. Acquisition of basic knowledge of cartography. Ability to read and interpret the landforms represented on topographical maps. running ability of topographic sections.

- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
