### Learning Objectives

The course aims to gradually introduce students to formalism, terminology and logic of mathematics tools, which are essential prerequisites for a proper assimilation of many of the economic,statistical and financial content disciplines,  that the student will face in the following. In addition to accustom students the practical use of the tools of algebra and differential calculus, the course aims to educate them in a logically consistent and rigorous approach to the problems, through the logical-deductive method typical of mathematics. The formal discussion of the items will be preceded by a heuristic and intuitive approach, and for many of them will be indicated the possible applications for the description of systems and processes of economic, social and financial. The more theoretical  lessons will be supplemented by exercises in the classroom in order to guide students in independent study and practice.

### Program

1. introductory Elements. Logic elements, elements of set theory. Real numbers, real functions of a real variable, graphs of polynomial functions, rational elementary exponential, logarithmic, circular fratte.
2. elements of linear algebra. Algebra of vectors and matrices. Systems of linear equations.
3. Elements of mathematical analysis. Introduction to numerical sequences and Series numbers. Limits of real functions of a real variable. Continuity and global theorems for continuous functions. The notion of derivative and derivation rules. Theorems of differential calculus, Taylor polynomial. Qualitative study of the graph of functions. Functions of two or more variables. Partial derivatives, Maxima and minima free.
4. A few basics for statistics. Statistical indexes such as
CENTRAL TENDENCY (Mean, Median, Mode, Quantiles, Percentiles)
DISPERSION (range, mean absolute Deviation, variance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation)
SHAPE (coefficient of skewness, kurtosis coefficient)

• Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course the students must have acquired knowledge and understanding of the issues developed in the classroom. In particular they must know and understand the concept of function in one or more variables and algebraic part (matrices/vectors). Didactic working methods by which such results will be achieved will consist of: lectures and exercises in class and at home, and seminars.
• Knowledge and understanding: students must be able to apply the knowledge gained in an appropriate way and flexible to analyze, understand and solve problems both analytical method. Didactic working methods by which such results will be achieved will consist of: lectures, analysis and discussion on some topics, exercises and seminars.
• Autonomy of judgement: students must have the ability to hook into integrated schemes and Unitarian knowledge acquired during the course and to confront complex problems independently and with its own judgement. Didactic working methods by which such results will be achieved will consist of: lectures, analysis and discussion of some issues, in-depth exercises.
• Communication skills: students must acquire an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, thanks to a good mastery of the vocabulary related to the topics covered during the course. Didactic working methods by which such results will be achieved will consist of: lectures, exercises on the chalkboard, elaborate display.
• Ability to learn: students must have developed good learning skills, which enable them to deepen the knowledge acquired during the course and to put them into practice by developing models. Didactic working methods by which such results will be achieved will consist of: lectures, exercises in class and at home, work groups and workshops, elaborate production.

Assessment

The examination consists of a written evidence on questions which will be half on part of mathematical analysis (15 points) and half on the part of algebraic geometry (15 points).
If the written exam will be overtaken with score > = 15 you will be able to sustain the oral examination.
The duration of the written examination is two hours.
