Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, a student should have a good basic knowledge of the major periods and trends in the development of Chinese literature from pre-imperial China to Song dynasty.
Program
- Early writings systems and oracular inscriptions;
- Classics;
- Philosophical Literature;
- The poetry of the North and of the South (Chuci);
- Historical literature and historiography;
- Han poetry (shi, fu, yuefu);
- Early novels between Han and Tang;
- Prose and Chuanqi;
- Tang Shi Poetry (phases and theoretical analysis);
- Song: shi, huaben, ci and prose.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Provide the student with a good knowledge of Chinese literature and culture from the origins through the end of Song Dynasty.
Good knowledge of the historical meaning of Literature in China.
Good knowledge of cultural differences between Chinese and Western civilisations.
Good knowledge of scientific approach to cultural phenomena.
