Learning Objectives

The module intends to provide the principles and the methods of the of the eidomatica, the conceptual basis and the synthesis of the images, limited to the main fields of interest of the multimedia. We primarily focus on the examination of methods and principles to create and develop images whose main aim is to be the communication channels between persons or between person and the computer. Moreover, the module intends to provide the basis for the professional use of the technologies of the digital imagine. All the issue related to the creation and the development of the vector and the raster images for on line and off line applications will be addressed.

Program

Digital images, resolution and dimension, tonal scale and the depth of the image, dithering, sampling an image, the color, the principal color spaces, the devices for capturing, watching and reproducing, the relations among pixels, the distance between pixels, filters for images, mask filters. Basic concepts of raster and vector graphics, the settings of a document, drawing, operations with objects, transformation and distortion of the objects, the use of levels, symbols and styles, lines and fillings, color management, use of the text, saving and exporting the files.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

All the students must achieve as follows:

1. Knowledge and skills of understanding: Basic concepts of roster and vector graphics, the setting of a document, drawing, operations with objects, transformation and distortion of the images, use of the levels, symbols and styles, colors, lines and fillings, management of the color, use of the text, print, saving and exporting the files,

1.1 The students achieve this basic knowledge by attending the courses and the laboratory seminaries, the study of the texts discussed in the classroom and the practice in the laboratory/class.

2. Ability to implement the knowledge and understanding trough the ability to analyze the projects of vector graphics.

2.1 Skills acquired trough laboratory practices in the classroom.

3. Capacity to judge: We are interested mainly in the examination of the methods and principles for creating and developing images.

3.1 this capacity to judge shall be used during the discussions in the classroom with the professor and colleagues. during the practice and the preparation of the final exam.

4. Communication skills: The students are called upon to interact in the classroom trough questions, exchanges with classmates organizing short presentations during the practice.

4.1 This capacity is practised in the classroom by organizing discussions and practice.

5.  Listening ability: Students are required to adopt a critical learning method capable of connecting theoretical skills and empirical analysis oriented towards the specification of an autonomous thought.

5.1 This capacity shall be strengthened thru the discussion with the professor and classmates.

Assessment

The exam will be held through an individual interview based on textbooks suggested and/or any materials provided during the lessons. The aim is to evaluate both student's comprehension of the content and his ability in reworking concepts and in argumenting. It is possibile to present a written document on a topic agreed with the teacher. 

  • Excellent grades will be given in presence of: a good critical perspective and in depth study; knowing how to link among them the main subjects addressed during the course; the use of an appropriate language.
  • Good grades will be given in presence of:  good mnemonic knowledge of the contents; a relatively good critical perspective and connection skills related to the treated topics; the use of appropriate language.
  • Sufficient grades will be given in presence of: the achievement of a minimal knowledge on the treated themes, even in presence of some gaps; the use of a not appropriate language.
  • Negative grades will be given in presence of: a difficult orientation related to the the treated topics; knowledge gaps; the use of a not appropriate language.
