Learning Objectives

- focus on reaching a good level of linguistic autonomy in written and oral production. Improving the ability to understand the key ideas in written and spoken texts, follow discussions regarding educational issues and everyday life.

- be able to interact fluently and spontaneously in group discussions;;

- be able to produce clear and accurate texts regarding the topics presented and be able to discuss various points of view.

- develop didactic skills: participate in simulations using English and reflect on the educational and teaching aspects of an activity from  both the child's and teacher's point of view .

Program

The workshops will focus on the learning and teaching of the English language in infant and primary school, in an environment encouraging simulation and inspired by the principles of  learning by doing, in addition to encouraging reflection on the students' first-hand experiences of the workshop in both roles as child, teacher and teacher trainer. 

Brief description of lessons:

Lesson I:

-reading of texts in English regarding education by J. Dewey e W. Ayers;

- reading of words and expressions which will facilitate the comprehension of the texts and enable students to retrieve previous linguistic knowledge;

- the participation of students in games, movement, Chants, and the use of simple musical instruments such as maracas and tambourines.

Lesson II:

Use of interactive and creative activities to facilitate the memorisation and retrieval of lexical items and connecting the language to multicultural aspects of society and cross-curricular subjects.

Lesson III:

Students will be involved in activities connected to music. The linguistic input will derived from The language of Music and students will listend to world music.

Students will explore and design linguistic and functional content stimulated by the varous musical texts. Students will use musical instruments and CDs.

Lesson IV:

Students will explore narration as a means of teaching the English language through:

brainstorming and Stories;

- different ways of listening such as: Listen and mime, Listen and repeat, Listen and draw;

- theatrical activities in the English language such as Acting out;

- the creation of stories and plays to transform narrative text into theatrical mode.

Lesson V:

Students will participate in a learning unit simulating a classroom  context and practising listening, comprehension, speaking, reading and writing skills.  This will be done through different kinds of dialogues, and games in large or small groups, alone or in pairs.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
