Learning Objectives
Linguistic pragmatics propose a view on language as a means for communication. It focusses in particular the difference between what speakers saz and what they mean or, in other terms, the difference between linguistic form and utterance meaning. The centra questions of pragmatics are: How can a speajer saz something but mean something completelz different? Whz can laddressees understand this anyway? What do speakers and listeners have to know in order to make understanding possible? How important is the literal meaning of the words and sentences and what else must be known? Until which ppoint the characteristics are culture specific? Are ther differences between languages that depend on culure?
The couse will give a brief outline of basic concepts and then will focus on communication in German language. Therefore manz different examples will be discussed.
