Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive view of the socio-cultural variables that are the basis of gender violence. Starting from a comparative analysis of myths, legends and religious texts in which the female is described in a negative and deadly way, we will try to map out a conceptual map through which to point out how the patriarchy operates through dynamics and discriminating patterns very similar to each other. The aim is to understand whether fear of femininity can be considered a fundamental paradigm of all other forms of stigma of diversity.

Program

The course will be articulated as follows by alternating frontal lessons with other deepening activities:

Introduction to the course and the topics that will be dealt with during the course.

  • Violence, death, fear.
  • The human being and how to overcome the anguish of death.
  • The negative image of the female.
  • Comparative analysis of myths, legends and religious symbols. Maternal ambivalence and the idea of ??sacrifice for the child.
  • Female negation as a paradigm of persecutory logos.
  • Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

    Expected knowledge: knowledge of the theoretical debate on gender violence; Ability to orientate in a comparative way between the various cultural perspectives that will be analyzed in the course; Critical approach to national and international rules regarding women's discourse. Knowledge is to be acquired through the reading of reference texts and seminar activities. Skills: critical analysis of the topics addressed; The ability to deepen theories and ties with empirical approaches to matter; Awareness of the gravity of gender violence and its impact on social relations. Skills are to be acquired by discussing the study texts also in relation to news and current events.     • (D) demonstrate the ability to communicate the acquired knowledge in a clear, essential and scientifically correct manner, especially in the context of dedicated seminars or by writing synthetic expositions (Communication);

    Assessment

    Oral examination. The discussion will focus on study texts, engaging in current top practices, experiences and public debates. The final vote will be determined by the knowledge of the various test texts and the ability to attach them to real or potential experiences. In particular, the examination is highly appreciated (and contributes to the evaluation): - working with foreign language texts - the ability to connect concepts, theories, approaches and researches in an organic and argumentative manner, without repeating pediculously the content of the texts - the mastery of specialized disciplinary language - having participated in research activities and the ability to link experience and know-how For those who have a textbook, the exam will focus on the discussion of the same. The textbook must be a text of approx. 10 folders, with index agreed with the teacher, which involves the original reading and reinterpretation of at least 3 texts, which are also agreed with the teacher - even outside the ones recommended for the exam. The tesina must be delivered at least 10 days before the exam date. The final vote will be determined by the ability to use and coherently link the texts used, their ability to attach them to experiences and practices, and the quality of writing (correct structuring of a scientific text in terms of index, paragraphs, logic of the text , Syntactic-grammatical correctness).
