### Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide students with the basic notions of mathematics, geometry, probability and statistics, with particular reference to examples that can be usefully used in lectures at elementary schools. It is also intended to stimulate the reading of the complexity of reality, with particular reference to the concept of probability and the entire descriptive stststic application.

1 the combinatorial calculus 1.1 fundamental principle of combinatorics 1.2 permutations, arrangements and combinations without repetition 2 The probability 2.1 definitions of experiments or observations; outcome; sample space, a simple, composite and complementary event 2.2 union and intersection between events; Venn diagram 2.3 classical, frequentist and axiomatic definition of probability 2,4 axions and probability theorems 2.5 dependent and independent events; conditional probability 3 The variables 3.1 series and serialization of data; 3.2 absolute, relative and percentage frequencies 3.3 classification of variables 4 Central trend indices 4.1 Mean, mode and median 4.2 outlines of dispersion indices 5. graphic representations 5.1 organization of data in tables 5.2 ideogram, cartogram, circular and rectangular areogram, dot diagram (scatter graph), bar diagram, histogram 6 Geometry 6.1 The point, the line, the straight line, the ray, the segment. 6.2 Angles and how they are measured The flat figures; definition, properties and calculation of areas (triangles, quadrilaterals, regular polygons and circles). 7 Elements of algebra: 7.1 the four elementary operations; definitions and properties. 7.2 The numerical sets 7.3 The use of properties for the calculation in mind.

### Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding: the student must know the rules of combinatorics and probability; also know the type of variables and how to represent them graphically. Furthermore, he will have to know the algebraic rules relating to operations and the rules relating to plane figures Applied knowledge and understanding: the student must be able to apply the mathematical and statistical rules studied in order to apply them to real cases, as well as be able to perform simple statistical calculations and graphical representations Autonomy of judgment: the student must be able to independently evaluate the plausibility of the result of a calculation procedure, both mathematical and statistical. Communication skills: the student will have to acquire a correct mathematical and statistical language. Ability to learn: the student will be able to deepen specific arguments, not presented during the course, using the notions learned.
