Learning Objectives

For about twenty years, Geopolitics, from a taboo word, has become a fashionable word. Geopolitics studies reality and almost always studies its constraints. It warns us of partisan geopolitics: that analytical approach that sometimes does not present the world as it is, but rather as we would like it to be. Therefore a valid antidote to the so-called "post-truth" and the "alternative truths" that we have come to know in recent times.

Program

With books included in the program of the Geopolitics course, further information is also collected in the Blended learning didactic modality. The topics covered will present four general thematic areas:

1. What is Geopolitics

2. Methods

3. Proposals for a 21st Century Geopolitical Atlas

4. Case study analysis

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

- Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course students must have acquired the knowledge of the main theoretical models and empirical evidence about the evolution of the concept of political representation.

- Applying knowledge and understanding: the students must be able to identify and apply appropriately, to real research and analysis situations, the concepts, models and theories presented throughout the course.

- Making judgements: the students will strengthen their ability to connect the concepts, theories and models presented throughout the course, their ability to deal with complex problems independently, to make judgements and critical reflections about the transformation of political representation.

- Communication skills: the students must be able to clearly and incisively communicate, appropriately using the lexicon, the concepts and the theories put forward by the political science literature on political representation.

- Learning skills: the students are supposed to develop adequate learning skills, so as to be able to extend and deepen the knowledge acquired throughout the course independently, following new paths of theoretical reflection or research.
