Learning Objectives

The course is spread over a 12 CFU course divided into two tracks. The first path (8 CFU) and consists of textbook study as per the syllabus while the second (4 CFU) involves monographic study of a topic to be agreed with the lecturer.

The course aims to provide students with the tools to analyze the problems, choices and effects of economic policies. The course analyzes the basic theories, models and problems of macroeconomic policy, with emphasis on fiscal, monetary, exchange rate and balance of payments, growth and employment policies. Special attention is given to the European dimension and the analysis of income and wealth inequality.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding: The students will learn different theories and the empirical evidence regarding the foundations, the tools and effects of government interventions.

Applying knowledge and understanding: The students will develop the ability to apply the analytical methods presented to real world socio-economic policy problems related to economic policy.

Making judgments: The students will develop the ability to assess economic situations, to relate them to concrete problems, and to develop policy recommendations in the fields of economic policy.

Communication skills: Through discussions in class, the students will develop the ability to autonomously debate with sound terminology economic policy problems using appropriate analytical tools and evidence.

Learning skills: At the end of the course, the students are expected to acquire the ability to develop learning skills that allow them to continue to study at an advanced level.

Lectures and seminars.

The in-person teaching mode will be enriched with exercises and insights, both individual and group. Some course topics will be covered following the practice of "flipped lesson" and Problem-based learning. Debates (regulated debates) will also be encouraged during class.

Assessment

The knowledge, understanding and ability to communicate are assessed with a written exam with open questions [insuff. (less than 18), suff.(18-21), good (22-26), excellent (27-30 e lode)]. After having passed the written exam students can attempt an oral examination.
