Learning Objectives

The program corresponds to the linguistic level "Pervyj Sertifikacionnyj uroven’" (TRKI-1) (B1 according to the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages"). The course aims to achieve the B1 linguistic level, considering the four language competency skills outlined by CEFR (written comprehension, oral comprehension, written production, oral production), with a particular focus on sector-specific business vocabulary.

Written Exam:

1.     Composition: Write a text of at least 200 words on the given topic.

2.     Vocabulary and Grammar Test: Answer 50 multiple-choice questions testing vocabulary and grammar.

Oral Exam:

1.     Listening Test: Listen to a text (in the language lab) on topics related to the business sphere, then provide written answers to 10 multiple-choice questions assessing comprehension of the listened text.

2.     Language Proficiency Assessment: The student must:

3.     Read a text aloud, understand it, and respond to questions about the text orally.

4.     Present a topic covered in class orally.

5.     Engage in a conversation with the examiner, who will ask questions to assess mastery of the grammatical and lexical content listed in the course program.

Composition Model:

The written production test will be divided into 2 parts: Part A and Part B. The total number of words for Part A and Part B must be at least 200 words.

Part A: Composition (at least 150 words) on a topic selected from those studied during the course. The composition should include both a descriptive and an argumentative part. The student presents a theme or issue, first describing it and then expressing their opinion in an argumentative manner, using the educational materials indicated in the exam bibliography (V. Adopted Texts) and discussed in class.

Part B: Short commercial letter (at least 50 words) selected from the types presented during the course.

The use of a dictionary is allowed for written production. The composition will be evaluated based on the criterion of acquired language competence, i.e., mastery of the language and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge related to grammatical and lexical content from the course (Level B1). The following evaluation parameters will also be applied:

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the language assistant in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the language assistant specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Innovative teaching methods

Modalità didattiche:

Nozioni teoriche ed esercitazioni linguistiche

Il corso prevede:

–  lezioni frontali

–  lavori di gruppo e redazione di elaborati scritti

–  presentazioni orali

In aula verranno svolte le seguenti attivittà mirate al raggiungimento del livello linguistico B1 considerando le 4 abilità della competenza linguistica previste dal QCER (comprensione scritta, comprensione orale, produzione scritta, produzione orale):

–  ascolto

–  conversazioni guidate

–  lavoro sul lessico di base

–  lavoro mirato all’acquisizione del linguaggio settoriale

–  esercizi di grammatica

–  riflessione linguistica sul testo scritto

–  lavoro sulle composizioni

–  visione dei video

Didattica innovativa

La modalità didattica in presenza verrà arricchita con esercitazioni e approfondimenti, individuali e di gruppo, che gli studenti svolgeranno utilizzando la piattaforma Moodle di Ateneo. Alcuni argomenti del corso verranno trattati, seguendo le seguenti pratiche didattiche innovative:

–  Case-study (casi di studio)

–  Problem-based learning (apprendimento per risoluzione di problemi)

–  Flipped classroom (classe capovolta)

–  Learning by doing (Simulazione di scenari, ecc.)

–  Project-Based Learning (l'apprendimento basato su progetto)

Teaching Methods:

The course includes:

In the classroom, the following activities will be carried out to achieve the B1 linguistic level, considering the four language competency skills outlined by CEFR (written comprehension, oral comprehension, written production, oral production):

-  Work on basic vocabulary

-  Targeted acquisition of sector-specific language

-  Grammar exercises

-  Linguistic analysis of written texts

-  Composition work

-  Watching videos

Innovative Teaching

In-person teaching will be enriched with individual and group exercises and in-depth exploration using the University's Moodle platform. Some course topics will be approached through the following innovative teaching practices:

-  Learning by doing (scenario simulations, etc.)
