Learning Objectives
Achieve an intermediate level of Chinese language B1-B2, i.e., acquire complete autonomy in the use of the language:
B1 Understands the key points of familiar topics involving school, leisure, etc. Can move with ease in situations that may occur while traveling in the country where the language is spoken. Is able to produce simple text related to topics that are familiar or of personal interest. He/she is able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly explain the reasons for his/her opinions and plans.
B2 Understands the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Is able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes natural interaction with native speakers effortless for the speaker possible. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of topics and explain a point of view on a subject giving the pros and cons of various options.
Program
“现代中国” will be the title of our course this year.
The course will focus on learning Chinese vocabulary and acquiring the linguistic-practical competence to cover topics on contemporary China.
Through the following topics:
- Shenzhen and the SEZs in China;
- Wenzhou and Chinese migration;
- Hong Kong and the Chinese real estate market;
- Macau: between UNESCO and casinos;
students will be able to develop the ability to interact in Chinese, understand complex texts, argue and perform technical discussions on contemporary China, especially, in the economic, social and business fields.
