Learning Objectives
The primary objective of the course is to provide the student with elements useful for understanding the organization of the cell, with particular reference to the animal cell.
Secondary objective is to lay the foundation for the teaching of the integrated course of Histology and Microscopic Anatomy.
Tertiary objective is to introduce the student to the characterizing or similar disciplines in the field of biomedical degrees, of which this course is configured as a pilot, as well as in some training areas useful during the master's degree program of the School of Sciences and Biotechnologies of the same university,

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
D1- KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY: when the course is completed, in order to pass the exam, the student must demonstrate possession of basic knowledge relating to the structure of the animal cell and those relating to the main microscopy methods for the study of the same.
D2- ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: the student must demonstrate possession of the ability to use the knowledge and concepts acquired to reason within the problems that the discipline proposes.
D3- COMMUNICATION ABILITY: the student must demonstrate possession and ability to use the correct scientific language and terminology that the discipline proposes.
D4- LEARNING ABILITY The student must demonstrate ability to examine and understand scientific texts.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
Students who have registered their disability certification or DSA certification at the Inclusion and Right to Education Office can ask to use specific supports during the exam.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, weeks before the exam session, to the course teacher, who will verify their consistency with the indications of the university guidelines and may request their modification.
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Frontal lessons in the classroom.
The laboratory activities include the observation of cytological samples under an optical microscope. The location of the laboratories may vary depending on the day (preparation of samples by the student or pure observation of the already prepared preparations.
The laboratories will be organized for the first time within the Degree Course: updates will be provided in the classroom by the teacher.
- Attendance
Attendance is not mandatory but it is strongly recommended for a correct and effective learning of the subject.
There is no prerequisite for the Histology and Microscopic Anatomy Module but it is strongly recommended to have followed the Course and passed the related exam.
- Course books
BIOLOGY - CELL and TISSUE Authors: R. Colombo and E. Olmo Publishing house: Edi.Ermes Milano OTHER TEXTS available soon in the new editions
- Assessment
Written exam: composed of a structured test (multiple choice, true/false, multiple choice questionnaire) and an unstructured test (short open-ended answers).
The answers are judged based on the knowledge of the subject, the ability to present and the language used as correct and appropriate scientific terminology, and are used to evaluate the ability to reason and synthesize.
The duration of the verification test will be 1.5 hours.
The final grade will be the average of the grades obtained in the two modules of the integrated course. (Cytology and Microscopy + Histology and Microscopic Anatomy)
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
Additional Information for Non-Attending Students
- Attendance
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended since the teacher has changed compared to the previous academic year.
There is no prerequisite for the Histology and Microscopic Anatomy Module, but it is strongly recommended to have followed the Course and passed the related exam.
- Assessment
The assessment method will be the same for both students who are behind schedule and those who are in schedule, regardless of whether they are attending or not.
