Learning Objectives
Themes
The aim of the degree programme is to give theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of biotechnology and to train highly specialized people who can work in the field of diagnostics, as well as designing and developing new therapeutic approaches such as biological drugs, vaccines, gene therapy vectors and engineered cells for gene therapy. The degree programme issues an advanced scientific preparation and a specific competence in the application of medical biotechnologies both for research purposes and in diagnostic and therapeutic fields, through the acquisition of new technologies and expertise integrated at the biochemical, bio-molecular and cellular levels.
Training meetings with private companies in the sector and regulatory bodies through seminars and workshops are favoured.
The degree programme also offers the possibility to acquire part of one’s preparation abroad by making scholarships available under the "Erasmus+ Study" programme. Finally, thanks to the "Erasmus+ Traineeship" programme, students have the opportunity to work as interns in companies and training or research centres abroad.
The course is entirely taught in Italian. Some materials may be provided in English.

Activities of PhD Students
The two-year degree programme is divided into two curricula: the first one in Biotechnology for molecular diagnostics aims to train graduates able to know and develop the most innovative diagnostic methodologies; the one in Biotechnology for innovative therapies aims to train graduates able to make innovative therapeutics such as biological drugs, vaccines, vectors and engineered cells aimed at gene therapy.
All courses are held in six-monthly intervals, evenly spread between the first and second semesters. Teaching activities include lectures, laboratory experiences, in-depth seminars and training placements. The thesis is experimental and involves a period of work in an internal or external research facility at the University.
