Learning Objectives
The course will concentrate on Flaubert's Trois contes, paying special attention to questions of point of view, distance between narrator and character, recurring themes and stylistic features. Essential information about the life and works of Flaubert will be given, as will his importance for the history of the French novel.
Students will acquire notions of literary theory and will be asked to write an essay, or present a paper in class, on a subject approved by the professor.
