Learning Objectives

30 years after the German Reunification (October 3, 1990) the course is dedicated to the analysis of the contemporary socio-political and economic situation of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as its tradition and its development, after that fundamental event that followed the fall of the Wall of 1989.

Secondly, the role of Germany in Europe and the new challenges within the German political landscape will be analyzed through the book of G.E. Rusconi.

Program

In a first part, some aspects of today's Germany will be critically analyzed, treated in the book by L. Renzi e U. Villani Lubelli. La nuova Germania. La Repubblica Federale 30 anni dopo la Riunificazione, ETS, Pisa, 2020, a text with ten essays and a preface devoted to the analysis of single aspects of the current situation in Germany, from political and institutional issues to the European and international context, with extensive contributions ranging from the geopolitical context, up to the constitutional tradition, the articulation of the Länder with respect to the traditions of the parties, the political and cultural institutions, the economic and market tradition, European integration, up to an analysis of the long chancellorship by Angela Merkel.

The most significant aspects of the social and political reality of contemporary Germany will then be examined on the basis of the text by G.E. Rusconi.
