Giovanni Piersanti was born in Urbino (Marche, Italy) in 1974. He received his MS (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Bologna in 1997, where he carried out research with Prof. M. Panunzio. He completed his Ph.D. in 2003 with Prof. G. Tarzia at University of Urbino. During his PhD he moved as Visiting Scholar at the University of California-Berkeley to work with Prof. Paul A. Bartlett. After two and a half years as a postdoctoral Fellow/Scientist first with Prof. Prof. Mohammad Movassaghi at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA) and then at Nerviano Medical Sciences-Milano, he began his independent career at the University of Urbino, where he is at present Professor of Organic Chemistry. His research includes the development of new strategies and methods for the synthesis of natural products including the indole alkaloids biosynthetically obtained from L-tryptophan
